Chat with a used car dealer made me rethink how I price repairs

Was at lunch last Tuesday and this old school dealer I know told me I was leaving $200 on the table every time I quoted a job. He said customers see a low estimate and think the work is crap, not a deal. Anyone else notice a difference in how clients react when you bump up the initial number?

Honestly, I think you might be mixing up two different things. A bump in price can work for some customers, but it's not about them thinking low estimates are crap. It's more about how you frame the value of the work, not the number itself.

@the_dylan is onto something but it's a bit more than just framing. Customers do sometimes figure a low number means you're cutting corners or using cheap parts. Bumping the price slightly can signal you're doing proper work, not trying to undercut everyone.
