Finally gave in and tried a stud welder for dent pulling
My buddy Mike kept telling me to ditch the slide hammer for shallow dents, and I figured he was just trying to sell me on his old unit. After watching him fix a hail-damaged hood on a 2015 Civic in 20 minutes, I picked up a cheap one off Craigslist for $60 and I'm actually impressed. Anyone else have good luck with those cheap Chinese stud welders or is it just a matter of time before it fails?

Bought one of those $50 units off Amazon and my buddy borrowed it to fix his old F-150. Thing still works two years later.

You're lucky it still works, but most of those cheap units are total junk. A buddy of mine grabbed one and the pins bent just plugging it in, then the software wouldn't even read his Chevy's codes. Spend a little more on a name brand or you're basically gambling with your time and money. I'd rather borrow a decent scanner than trust something that might crap out when you actually need it.
