Is it fair to charge a customer full price when their 'quick fix' was my work from 3 years ago?

Last month a guy came in with a door dent he'd tried to pop out himself, and when I looked closer it was the exact same rear quarter panel I'd repaired back in March 2021, so I quoted him $850 for the redo, but my partner says we should give a discount since it was our original weld that failed, what do you all think, does prior work on the car mean you eat the cost or is that just bad luck on the customer's side?

The "quick fix" part is what's sticking with me, because that's not really what happened here. Your weld from 2021 didn't fail on its own, the guy went at it with a pop-out tool and made it worse, so that's a whole new problem, not a warranty issue. I see your partner's point about prior work, but the dent you fixed three years ago was a different job than the one sitting in front of you now. If the original repair had cracked or rusted through with no outside help, then sure, maybe you owe him something. But he changed the situation, so charging full price for new labor and materials sounds fair to me.
