Just read that some shops are charging $300+ for a basic bumper scuff repair

I saw it in a trade magazine survey from last month, and it honestly made me stop reading. That's more than double what we charge for the same job. Are customers actually paying that, or are these shops just inflating prices because they can?

My cousin in San Jose got a quote for $350 to fix a scratch on her Prius. The shop told her it was the "premium paint matching process." She ended up just using a touch-up pen.

That's just insane, right? Harperreed has it spot on with the double charge thing. Saw a local place here trying to charge a neighbor $400 for a parking lot scuff, said it needed "blending" into the next panel. Total nonsense for a spot you could cover with a credit card. Makes you wonder if they're just pricing themselves out of work on purpose, because who's actually saying yes to that?
