My mentor called me out for glazing over body filler jobs and I finally listened

I used to always just sand and prime over small dings without pulling the metal first because it was faster, but my old shop foreman showed me a repair I did a year later with the filler cracked and rust bubbling through. He said 'you're not fixing cars, you're just hiding problems' and that stuck with me. Has anyone else had to unlearn a bad habit that was just the easy way out?

Took me way too long to figure out the same lesson.
