Question about using a cheap orbital sander versus a proper DA polisher on a clear coat blend
After trying to blend a clear coat on a 2018 Honda Civic's quarter panel with a $40 orbital from the hardware store and then doing the same job with my shop's $300 dual-action polisher, the difference in finish and how much easier it was to avoid burning through was like night and day, so what other tools have you guys tried that seemed okay until you used the right one?

My first cordless drill was a real learning experience.

My neighbor's been a body guy for twenty years and he swears by his old Harbor Freight sander for small touch ups. He says if you know how to read the paint and keep it moving, the cheap tool gets the job done without burning a hole in your wallet. I mean, not everyone needs a three hundred dollar polisher for a weekend project on their own car. Sometimes you're just paying for the brand name and a bit of extra comfort, not the actual result.

Remember trying to cut a whole yard with a cheap string trimmer from a big box store. Upgraded to a professional grade one and it was like the grass was made of butter. The cheap one shook my hands numb and the line broke every five minutes, but the good one just works. You don't realize how much you're fighting the tool until you use something that actually helps you. Makes you wonder what other junk you're putting up with, right?
