Spent 30 minutes fighting a single door handle clip on a 2015 F-150 today
I was swapping out a broken passenger side handle and that little white plastic clip just would not seat right no matter what angle I tried. Took me 20 minutes of swearing and dropping it three times before I realized I had the retainer spring flipped backwards. Anyone else have those jobs where a 5 minute swap turns into a half hour headache?

You said "stop and look for a simpler problem" but sometimes the simpler problem IS just a bad design. I've had brand new clips straight out of the package fight me on a clean, dry bench just because the plastic flash was a hair too thick. Cleanliness helps, sure, but it doesn't fix a part that's slightly out of spec or a spring that needs to be clocked exactly right. Half the time with door handles it's just the clips being junk, not dirt.

That's a pretty common mistake, but I actually think a lot of the frustration with these clips comes from people not taking the time to clean everything properly first. A little bit of dirt or old grease in the track can make them seem like they're seated when they're not. Spending half an hour wrestling with it is a good reminder to stop and look for a simpler problem before forcing things. You probably would have saved fifteen minutes if you had just stopped, wiped off the spring and the hole with a rag, and then tried again. Things like that get a lot easier when everything is clean and you can see what you're doing.

Gotta question how big of a deal this really is, @wyatt52. I mean, sure, a dirty track can mess things up sometimes, but I've wrestled with brand new, clean parts for way longer than half an hour too. It's not always some simple dirt issue. Plenty of times you just get a tight fit that needs a little force, not more time cleaning. Not saying you're wrong about keeping stuff clean, but people act like every jam is user error when sometimes the part just sucks.
