Swore by single-stage paint for years, finally tried base/clear

I used to think base/clear was just a money grab and single-stage did the same job for less. Then I painted a 2004 Ford F-150 in Phoenix last August and the single-stage faded like crazy within 8 months. Has anyone else had single-stage fail on them after swearing by it for years?

Single-stage has its place if you know what you're doing and don't live in a blast furnace like Phoenix. @terry_thomas probably had a bad mix, but I've seen cheap base/clear peel off in sheets too, so pick your poison.

Did you shoot the single-stage with a hardener or just straight out of the can? I remember my buddy did an old Chevy in his driveway with the cheap stuff and it chalking up after one Arizona winter, never touched it again.
