The $18 harbor freight stud welder actually works for dents

I was sure that cheap little stud welder was gonna be junk. Bought it on a whim last month to pull a dent out of my buddy's old F-150 fender. First try the tip stuck to the panel like it was welded on, no joke. I used it on a crease near the wheel well and the slide hammer pulled it out smoother than I expected. It's not perfect for thin metal, you gotta dial the heat way down, but for 18 bucks it paid for itself in one job. I'm still not sold on their spray guns, but this thing surprised me. Anyone else use the cheap stud welders or am I just lucky so far?

Man, did I ever think those cheap stud welders were a total scam before this? I watched so many YouTube reviews where people roasted them, so I figured the $18 one was just gonna be a waste of shelf space in the garage. But then my neighbor asked me to help with a dent on his beater Civic, and we figured why not try it since it was basically the price of a pizza. Honestly, the first pull shocked me, it grabbed that metal like it was meant to be there and the dent came out in like four or five pops. I even messed with the heat settings on a scrap piece first, and once you find the sweet spot, it's surprisingly forgiving. I'm with you on the spray guns, those are still trash in my book, but this little welder earned a permanent spot in my toolbox.
