Warning: That paintless dent repair kit on Amazon is a waste of money

My buddy Carlos kept telling me to just buy one of those $40 PDR kits online instead of paying a pro to fix a door ding on my truck. I figured hey, how hard can it be, right? Spent 2 hours on a Saturday in my driveway in Phoenix trying to pop out a dent the size of a quarter on my passenger door. The glue sticks barely held, the bridge puller felt like a toy, and I ended up scratching the clear coat with the little metal rod. Now I gotta bring it to a real shop anyway and pay double for them to fix both the dent AND my screw up. Carlos felt bad and bought me a case of Modelo, but that doesn't cover the $180 body work bill. Anyone else get burned by those cheap DIY dent kits or was I just doing it completely wrong?

That glue sticks barely held" is the part that gets me. I once tried to fix a dent in my fridge with one of those kits because I figured hey, it's just metal, how different can it be. Turns out refrigerator doors are way thinner than car panels and I ended up with a dent that looked like a sad face.

Jump right in and save yourself the headache next time by calling a PDR pro from the start. I learned the same way you did, and I swear those cheap kits are just hot glue and plastic scrapers in a fancy box. The glue sticks in those kits are made for cool temps, not for Phoenix or Arizona heat, so they just pop off. Save the $40 and buy @rileyellis a beer instead, because that's the best use for the money.
