Picked open transport over enclosed for my Mustang from Phoenix to Seattle, and now I'm staring at a cracked windshield

So I had to move my 2015 Mustang GT from Phoenix up to Seattle back in March, and the broker gave me two quotes. Open transport was $890 and enclosed was $1,650. I went with open to save the $760, thinking the car is a daily driver with 80k miles on it, who cares about a little road dust. Well the driver calls me 4 days later and says he's an hour out, then shows up with a chip in the windshield that spread into a 7 inch crack and a scuff on the rear bumper. He swears both were already there. Now the claim is going on 6 weeks with the carrier's insurance and they're offering me $200 for a $480 windshield job. Has anyone actually won one of these claims, or am I just eating the cost?
