Showerthought: my transporter left my Tacoma at a QT in Atlanta and didn't call me for 2 days
Booked a open carrier run from Phoenix to Charlotte for $950 back on June 3rd and the driver kept texting me 'almost there' for a week. Then Friday morning I get a call from some guy at a QuikTrip off I-285 in Atlanta saying my truck has been sitting in his lot since Wednesday night with the keys in the cupholder. The broker I paid goes silent, the dispatcher number rings to a fax machine, and I end up driving 6 hours each way to go get it myself. Found two new scratches on the tailgate and a empty Chick-fil-A bag on the floor. Has anyone actually gotten a dime back from a broker after something like this, or am I just eating the $200 deposit?
Getting my deposit back from a broker like that took me about three weeks of nagging. First thing that worked was calling my bank and asking for a chargeback on my card, since the broker never gave me the service I paid for. The bank wanted proof, so I saved every text, the original quote, and the bill of lading showing the truck got dropped somewhere it shouldn't have been. I also filed a complaint with the FMCSA, and that seemed to get the broker's attention more than my phone calls ever did. The deposit came back about a week after that, minus nothing. Small claims court is your backup plan if the card was a debit card or too much time passed. Worth the hassle, because these guys count on people just giving up.
