Why does nobody talk about the broker who quoted me $650 then tried to add $300 at pickup
I shipped my daughter's Corolla from Tucson to Portland back in April and went with a broker that had decent reviews. Quote was $650, which felt fair, and the guy on the phone was super friendly, promised a carrier within 3 days and no surprise fees. Sure enough, the driver calls me the morning of pickup and says the price is actually $950 because my street is "hard to reach" for his rig. I live on a normal residential block, nothing tricky about it. He acted like he was doing me a favor by not driving off. I called the broker and suddenly nobody could explain where that extra $300 came from, just kept saying it was between me and the driver. I ended up paying $900 because I had to get the car moved that week, but it left a bad taste. Has anyone else had a carrier jack up the price at the last second like that, and is there a way to lock it in before pickup day?
