I thought that new fiber optic splice kit was just overpriced junk.

Got stuck on a stubborn avionics box in a G650, a connector that just would not seat right. My boss handed me this kit with a special alignment tool and a tiny UV light pen. I figured it was a gimmick, but after fighting it for an hour, I gave it a shot. The tool held the fiber perfectly straight and the UV cure was done in 90 seconds, first try. Who else has been surprised by a tool they thought was useless?

Wait, a UV light pen? That sounds like something from a sci-fi movie, not the hangar. I totally get writing off fancy kits as junk, but man, when the weird little gadget actually works, it feels like magic. Never doubt the special tool, I guess.

Nah, UV pens are actually super common in hangars now. They're not sci-fi, just the best way to spot cracks in composites. That little purple glow finds stuff you'd totally miss in normal light.

So @the_sam, does that mean you've used one?
