My old boss in Dallas always said 'never trust a green wire nut on a 28 volt circuit, it's a sign someone was guessing' and I just proved him right

Your boss had a point, but the real problem is the wire nut itself on aircraft voltage. That system needs proper crimps and heat shrink. A green nut just makes the bad choice obvious. Guessing with connectors is how you get a call back for an intermittent fault.

Had a Cessna 172 come in last year with a flickering nav light. Traced it back to a wire nut someone used on a 28V line. The vibration worked it loose over time. Swapped it for a proper crimp and adhesive heat shrink, problem never came back. Honestly, that green nut is just asking for trouble in the air.

Used to be one of those guys who thought wire nuts were fine if you taped them good. Then I spent an afternoon chasing a ghost in a King Air's landing light circuit - guess what the culprit was. Your mileage may vary, but that old Dallas boss was onto something for real.
