Old timer at my first shop swore by dielectric grease on every connector
Honestly, my first lead tech, Jerry, told me to smear dielectric grease on every single connector I touched back when I started 8 years ago. I did it religiously for like two years on everything from pitot-static lines to nav antenna cables. Then I found out he was wrong about half of it because some connectors actually need dry contact for proper grounding, and I spent a weekend cleaning out a bunch of greased up cannon plugs on a King Air. Has anyone else gotten bad advice from a senior tech that they followed way too long?

Keep sticking with Jerry on this one, dielectric grease on cannon plugs is actually fine as long as you don't glob it on too thick. A thin layer helps keep moisture out and stops corrosion way better than dry connectors ever will. The grounding issue people bring up is mostly a myth for standard aviation connectors since the pins still make solid contact through the grease.

Dielectric grease is legit, I've been doing it for years with zero issues.
