TIL that old wiring in a 727 from 1978 can look fine but test brittle as glass

Found this during a routine harness check last Tuesday at the Miami hangar, and the insulation literally crumbled when I touched it with a probe. Has anyone else run into ancient Kapton wire that passed a visual but failed miserably under chirp testing?

Man, talk about a wire that's all show and no go. It's like that one friend who looks fit but pulls a muscle just reaching for the remote. Guess you can't trust a wire's looks any more than a used car salesman's promises.
