Grandma's deviled eggs used to be perfect, then she switched to store-bought mayo

She used to make her own mayo for 50 years, but last Thanksgiving she bought Hellmann's and they tasted completely flat. I finally asked why and she said her arthritis made whisking too painful, never even thought about that before. Has anyone else noticed a family recipe change like that and found out it was something small?

Is a slightly different taste on deviled eggs really that big of a deal though? My grandma once switched from Crisco to butter in her pie crust and I swear nobody could tell until she pointed it out. People change recipes all the time for practical reasons and the rest of us just make it into a whole thing in our heads.

Yeah but deviled eggs are sacred ground, you don't mess with that.

People change recipes all the time" but nobody thinks about how it changes the memories tied to them.
