Just realized my aunt's annual "surprise" gift exchange has a pattern
She's been giving me a scarf every single Christmas for 7 years. Took me until last week to notice they were all the same shade of blue - she's colorblind and doesn't know.

Oh man, I had a coworker who kept giving me cactus plants because she thought I was "prickly." I'm not even that prickly, I just don't like small talk.

That cactus thing hits close to home. My friend kept giving me those meditation coloring books for years before I realized she was hinting at my stress levels. I finally just sat her down and said "look, I know you mean well but can we just grab coffee instead of exchanging stuff?" It actually worked out really well. Now we just make a pact to do experiences instead of gifts and nobody has to pretend to like scarves or cactuses anymore. Sometimes you gotta break the pattern even if it feels awkward at first.
