My aunt's gravy boat exploded all over the table at Thanksgiving

We were at my cousin's place in Columbus and the gravy hit the linen tablecloth right as my uncle was about to say grace, so I grabbed the nearest bowl of cranberry sauce and started spooning it onto plates to cover the silence, then my aunt said 'well, at least it's not the good china' and somehow that got everyone laughing instead of yelling, has anyone else had a disaster that accidentally saved the night?

That sounds like one of those moments where everyone just needed a laugh and the universe delivered it in the weirdest way possible. Your aunt's timing with that comment was perfect, honestly, it probably broke the tension better than any planned speech could have. Glad it turned into a good memory instead of a ruined holiday.
