My aunt's new boyfriend tried to fix the garbage disposal at Thanksgiving and it took 4 hours

He insisted he knew what he was doing, but after he took it apart, we couldn't get it back together. We had to call a plumber on a holiday, and dinner was delayed until almost 9 PM. The whole time, my aunt kept saying 'he's very handy' while he had parts spread across the kitchen floor. Has anyone else had a simple fix turn into a whole day thing because of a family member?

Next time just hide the tools before he shows up... works every time.

Haha, @the_ruby, I've done that exact thing before.

Oh man, I feel this in my bones! My dad once decided to "quickly" replace a light fixture in my mom's kitchen and ended up rewiring half the house because he wanted to do it "the right way." Three days later, we had no lights in three rooms and a hole in the ceiling he tried to patch with duct tape. Mom was so mad she made him call an actual electrician and he had to pay for it out of his own pocket. Why do they always think they can fix things when they clearly can't?
