My cousin's wedding reception turned into a political debate zone

We were at the Riverside Hotel ballroom for my cousin's wedding last Saturday. During the father-daughter dance, my uncle started loudly arguing with my aunt about the election results. He said, 'You voted for a clown,' right as the music got quiet. Everyone at our table of 12 just stared at their plates for a solid minute. Has anyone else had a family moment completely ruin a nice event?

Sounds like your uncle wanted to make the father-daughter dance a little more dramatic, @uma685. Maybe next time they should just play really loud music the whole time.

Sounds like your uncle mistook the father-daughter dance for a debate stage. Nothing says "happy wedding" like calling your spouse's vote a joke in front of the whole family. My family's rule is you can fight about politics at Thanksgiving or the Fourth of July, but weddings and funerals are off limits. Someone should have handed him a piece of cake to shut him up.

My friend's dad did that too, @piper_reed. Awkward cake silence for sure.
