My uncle's 4th of July toast in 2018 made us switch to paper plates for good.
He gave a rambling speech about his divorce while holding a full glass of red wine, then knocked over the entire pitcher of sweet tea onto my mom's antique lace tablecloth, which led to a silent, three-hour cleanup where nobody made eye contact.

That's why we only trust me with plastic cups.

Lol same here, my friends won't even let me near a real glass anymore. I broke three in one week just doing normal dishes, it was ridiculous. They call me the glass killer now, it's a whole thing. I'm honestly a danger to anything that isn't plastic or metal.

Man that "glass killer" title @danielmason has is too real. I've seen this happen at family stuff before. My rule is to just hand the clumsy person their drink already poured, and keep the pitcher or bottle way out of reach. Saves the tablecloth and the drama. Plastic cups are a solid move too, no shame in that.
