My uncle's 90 minute lecture on carving changed how I host Thanksgiving

Last year at my place in Columbus, my uncle Bob spent 90 minutes criticizing how I carve the turkey, saying I was 'butchering the bird like a rookie.' He showed me his method of slicing against the grain with a $12 electric knife, and I laughed it off at first. But when I tried it this year, the meat came out way juicier and everyone noticed the difference. Now I actually ask him to carve first, which feels weird but works. Has anyone else had a family member's annoying advice turn out to be legit?

Ninety minutes of carving talk and the guy ends up being right, that's a tough one to swallow. I figure the juicier meat has more to do with letting the bird rest than the knife angle, but hey, if it makes your uncle feel like a genius, let him have it.

Last year my brother spent a full hour breaking down a prime rib and it was the best damn thing we ate all Christmas, so I get it. @wyatt52 you hit the nail on the head though, rest time does way more than the angle, but I'll never tell him that either.
