My uncle's Thanksgiving toast used to be a prayer, now it's a conspiracy theory

For years, he'd just say a quick blessing over the turkey. Last November, he stood up and spent 15 minutes explaining why the Macy's parade balloons are government surveillance tools. My cousin's new boyfriend, who works for the city, just stared at his plate the whole time. Anyone else have a relative who switched from normal to wild at family dinners?

Used to think it was just weird uncles being weird. Then my dad started going on about fluoride last Christmas. Makes you wonder what changed for them.

Yeah, it's the algorithm feeding them that stuff, @loganl22. They get stuck in a loop of videos that confirm their worries. Once that seed gets planted, it's tough to talk them out of it.

That "seed gets planted" idea is rough, @loganl22. But what's the actual soil that lets it grow in someone who used to be normal? Is it just loneliness, or something deeper?
