My uncle's toast read my diary out loud at Thanksgiving, 4 years ago
Back in 2021, my grandma hosted Thanksgiving at her place in Dayton. I was 17 and kept a handwritten journal in my jacket pocket, dumb I know. My uncle found it when he grabbed my coat to hang it up, and he thought it was a gag gift or something. He stood up, tapped his glass, and read the cringiest entry about my secret crush on my cousin's friend. The whole table went silent, then my cousin's friend started laughing, and my uncle kept going for like 3 more lines before my mom tackled him. I still get flashbacks every time someone touches my stuff at a party. Has anyone else had a family member expose something private like that, and how do you even recover?

My grandma still brings up that Thanksgiving every year like it's a funny story, but I literally change the subject every single time. It's wild how one bad moment can just stay with you forever, even when everyone else has moved on. I think that's just part of being human though, our brains love to replay the embarrassing stuff on loop.
