Remember when family dinners were just about the food and not the politics?

My uncle's ancient recliner finally gave out right in the middle of Thanksgiving dinner in Phoenix, dumping him on the floor and leaving a silence so deep you could hear the green bean casserole bubble, which honestly felt like a weird metaphor for the whole year.

My neighbor's washing machine broke last month and flooded her kitchen. It felt like the final straw after a year of small, weird breakdowns. It's like all the normal stuff we count on is just giving up at the wrong time. Your uncle's chair and my neighbor's appliance are part of the same tired story. Why does it feel like everything is just falling apart at the seams lately?

My cousin's garage door spring snapped last Tuesday, right as he was leaving for a dentist appointment. It made this huge bang like a gunshot and the door just sagged in the track. He said it was the third major house thing to fail since spring. It really does feel like a domino effect once it starts, where one broken thing just shows you all the other worn out stuff waiting to go.
