Still can't get over my aunt asking me at Thanksgiving if I'm 'still trying' to have kids right after I miscarried
She said it loud enough for the whole table to hear and then acted confused when I just sat there staring at my plate.

Still trying" backfired hard when I just said "nope" and changed the subject.

I read a piece the other day about how 'still trying' puts people in an impossible spot, and you handled it perfectly @julia_patel. Just a flat 'nope' shuts down the whole line of questioning without getting dragged into explaining yourself.

Still trying" is such a cheerful way to ask someone if they want to relive their trauma in front of mashed potatoes. Sounds like your aunt was going for the family award for most awkward moment of the year.
