That awkward moment when I learned my grandma's famous pie recipe was from a can
Last Thanksgiving, my aunt announced that grandma's legendary pumpkin pie that everyone raves about? It's just canned Libby's mix with extra nutmeg. I was shocked because I spent years thinking she had some secret farm-to-table thing going on. My cousin found the actual can in her recycling bin and posted a photo to our family chat. Suddenly the whole "heirloom recipe" felt fake and I actually felt a little annoyed at the deception. But then I tried making one from scratch with real pumpkin and it tasted way worse, so maybe grandma knew what she was doing after all. Has anyone else found out a family food tradition wasn't as homemade as you thought?

Ngl, who cares if it came from a can? Good food is good food, the 'deception' is just grandma not wanting to admit she took a shortcut.

My aunt prides herself on her "from scratch" pea soup but I found the can in the trash once - honestly it was way better than the homemade version she brags about.
