The Thanksgiving I found the perfect escape plan

Last year at my sister's house, my brother-in-law started his annual rant about politics and I knew I had to get out fast. I remembered a tip from a friend about offering to wash dishes by hand since nobody ever volunteers for that job. I spent a peaceful 45 minutes scrubbing pans while everyone else argued, has anyone else found a chore that saves them from awkward conversations?

My cousin's wife Sarah pulled the same move last year at her in-laws' and I honestly thought she was just being weird. I always figured washing dishes was the worst job. Then I got stuck at my uncle's house where he plays Fox News on a loop in the living room and I volunteered to scrub every single pot. I spent 40 minutes on just the roasting pan and it was GLORIOUS. Nobody bothered me, I had my phone playing podcasts in my earbuds, and by the time I was done everyone had moved on to dessert. I will NEVER look at dish duty the same way again.

Saw a lifehack article once that said dishes are the ultimate escape move.
