The Thanksgiving my uncle brought up the cousin he disowned

Last Thanksgiving at my aunt's house in Cleveland, my uncle Gary sat down at the table and casually mentioned he'd been texting with my cousin Mike that we hadn't seen in 8 years. My mom dropped the gravy boat. Nobody knew how to react, so we just stared at the turkey for a solid 10 seconds. What do you do when someone brings back a family member nobody's allowed to mention at the dinner table?

Oh man, 'my mom dropped the gravy boat' is the perfect way to describe how every family dinner goes sideways. At least now you've got a new tradition of staring silently at the turkey while you all process a decade of drama!

My family had a similar moment last Thanksgiving when my aunt forgot to take the giblets out of the turkey. We all just sat there staring at this weird little bag inside the bird like it held all our secrets. It's funny how one small thing can just crack everything open after years of keeping quiet. Sending you good vibes for the next family dinner, hope everyone makes it through without any gravy boat incidents this time.

Oh wait, hold up. Your MOM dropped the gravy boat?? That is such a specific, perfect moment. Like she physically couldn't handle the betrayal of the gravy being ruined by the news. I can just picture her face going pale and the gravy just splashing everywhere. And then ten seconds of dead silence staring at a turkey like it's gonna give you all the answers. That's some sitcom level stuff right there.
