The year my uncle brought his new girlfriend to Thanksgiving and she was my old landlord

Last Thanksgiving at my aunt's place in Portland, my uncle walks in with a woman I hadn't seen in about 6 months. It was my old landlord from the duplex I rented back in 2022. She evicted me for having a cat that wasn't on the lease, even though I offered to pay extra. I just sat there with my plate of turkey while she looked at me and went pale. Nobody at the table knew what was going on until she blurted out oh you're the one with the orange tabby. My mom dropped her gravy boat. The rest of the meal was all awkward small talk and my uncle kept asking why nobody told him they knew each other. Has anyone else had a surprise connection like this ruin a holiday meal?

The eviction over the cat thing must have been rough, but what really gets me is how she just blurted that out at the table. Did she really think nobody would connect the dots, or was it just panic? I'm curious what your uncle's reaction was after dinner once he found out the full story.

My uncle just sat there quiet for a minute, then shook his head and said "well that explains the missing Tupperware." He's the type who processes things slow, so later that night I heard him on the phone with my aunt just going "I can't believe she fed smoked salmon to a cat named Mittens." Worked out because we all just laughed about it after the initial shock wore off, made the drama way less heavy.
