Uncle Jerry brought his new girlfriend to Thanksgiving and she asked if the turkey was vegan
She dead serious asked while holding a drumstick, and my 8 year old nephew yelled 'turkeys aren't vegan they're dead' and the whole table went silent. Has anyone else had a guest just totally miss the vibe of a holiday meal like that?

@stella_baker that kid is a legend. Honestly though, you gotta be ready for stuff like this. Next time, have a backup plan. I keep a bag of frozen veggie burgers in the freezer for surprise guests, and I make sure someone at the table knows the script. Like, if someone asks something wild, you just say "nah, it's regular turkey" and change the subject. Worked for me when my cousin brought a date who asked if the cranberry sauce was paleo. Just redirect and move on. The kid calling out the truth is funny, but Uncle Jerry's girlfriend probably felt terrible after. Save the jokes for later.
