Changed my mind about dating apps after a real bad one in Brooklyn

I used to think dating apps were fine if you just filtered hard enough, but I matched with a guy named Derek last Friday who spent the whole dinner talking about his ex's cat's surgery. He literally said 'Whiskers needed a $3,000 procedure' and then asked if I'd split the bill. That moment made me realize apps let people skip the early screening that happens naturally in person. Has anyone else found that meeting people through hobbies or friends actually filters out the weird ones better?

Yeah, the Whiskers thing would make me ditch apps too. I used to defend them.

The Whiskers thing was like watching a train wreck in slow motion. They had all those devs vouching for the app and then just threw them under the bus. Made it real hard to keep defending them after that.

Really curious what the breaking point was for you specifically. Was it the data stuff or just how they handled the whole thing?
