Finally had a date that didn't end in disaster for once
After six straight bad dates in a row where guys either showed up late, talked about crypto the whole time, or ghosted mid-meal, I finally had a normal one last Thursday. We met at this little coffee shop in Brooklyn called Bean & Nothingness, and he actually asked me questions about my life instead of just talking at me. It wasn't fireworks or anything, but he didn't check his phone once and even split the bill without making it weird. I went in expecting nothing after my last date where a guy tried to pay with a 50% off coupon he printed at home. So having someone just act like a decent human being felt like winning the lottery. Has anyone else had a run of bad dates so long you forgot what a good one felt like?

Oh god, the printed coupon guy. That's a new low. I had a dude show up in sweatpants once and then tried to pay with a gift card that was expired. Like, actually expired.
My run was seven months straight of awful. Last one before I met my current boyfriend kept talking about his "astrological compatibility" with his cat. Not even kidding.
When I finally had a normal date where he just asked about my day and didn't try to sell me crypto or talk about his ex, I almost cried. It's like the bar is on the floor but we're still grateful for it.

My buddy Mark went through something similar last year. Eight dates in a row where the first one asked him to cosign a loan on the second date. Another one spent the whole time explaining why she deserved free drinks because she had a "high vibrational energy." The worst one showed up already drunk and then tried to get him to buy her a plane ticket to Vegas. He finally had a normal date at a diner where they split a milkshake and she didn't ask for money once. Said he felt like he'd won a small but important prize.
