Finally stopped trying to impress people with fancy restaurant picks

I used to always pick these trendy new places for first dates, spending like $80 on dinner alone. Had this one date last year where the place was so loud we couldn't even talk, and the food was tiny portions on huge plates. I started inviting people to my favorite diner instead, a spot called Rosie's that's been around 20 years. The coffee's good, the pancakes are huge, and you actually get to have a conversation. Anyone else find that simpler dates just work better?

Nah, sometimes the fancy spot shows you're actually trying, not just being lazy.

That Rosie's place sounds exactly right. I switched to a little diner near my place a few years back and it changed everything about dating for me. There's something about cheap coffee and a worn down booth that just lets you actually talk to someone.
