Could it be that ghosting is sometimes the kinder option? A blunt "not interested" text can feel way more harsh and awkward to receive. Maybe they're avoiding that extra sting.

Maybe the vibe was only great on your end. People can be really good at acting interested when they're just being polite. A first date is basically a job interview with drinks, and sometimes you don't get a call back. Ghosting is a pretty clear answer, even if it's a rude one.
