Matched with a guy who showed up 45 minutes late and blamed it on 'traffic' even though he lives 10 minutes away
I waited at the coffee shop in downtown Portland for almost an hour, watching my latte go cold and my patience run out. When he finally rolled in, he didn't even apologize, just said 'traffic was wild' with a straight face. How do you even respond to that without just walking out?

Ugh, that's brutal. I'm sorry you had to sit there like that, it's such a bad feeling when you're excited and then just stuck waiting. Honestly, it's not even about the 45 minutes, it's the total lack of apology or ownership. If he can't even say "my bad, I messed up" for something that small, that's a pretty big red flag right out of the gate. Your time matters just as much as his, and showing up late without a real sorry is just disrespectful. I'd say trust your gut on this one, because if he's like this on a first meeting, it probably won't get better. You deserve someone who actually values your time and shows up ready, not someone who makes excuses.

Yeah totally agree @gray6. Missing an apology for something like that is honestly wild, especially when you're hyped for the date and it just goes sideways. Lol I once showed up 20 minutes late to a first date because I ran into a pole while walking and had to sit on a bench for a bit feeling like a total idiot, but at least I apologized like 5 times and offered to buy her dessert to make up for it. That guy's lack of basic decency is a bigger red flag than my clumsiness lmao. If he's already blowing you off without a sorry, imagine what happens when something actually serious comes up. Your gut knows what's up, so listen to it and don't waste your time on someone who can't even own their mistakes.
