My sister told me to just 'be mysterious' on dates and it backfired completely

I sat there in total silence at this coffee shop downtown for 10 full minutes trying to look mysterious and she just got up and left, has anyone else gotten terrible dating advice from family that totally bombed?

Be mysterious" means not talking too much, not sitting there like a statue for ten minutes.

My sister once told me to "play hard to get" by taking 45 minutes to reply to texts, so I did that on a first date and the guy showed up with a whole other girl because he assumed I stood him up. So I feel your pain big time here. @patriciap52 nailed it though - I think my sister meant "act mysterious" like don't overshare your whole life story in one sitting, not literally stop talking and stare at them like a creep. It's wild how bad our families are at giving dating tips, honestly.
