Rant: I overheard a woman say she gives a fake phone number if the guy is under 6 feet
I was sitting at a coffee shop in Portland last Saturday and heard two women talking about dating. One said she always asks a guy's height early and if he's under 6 feet she gives a fake number to avoid awkwardness. I get having preferences, but wasting someone's time with a fake number feels dishonest and cruel. Has anyone else noticed this kind of casual rudeness becoming more accepted in dating these days?

My oldest daughter went through this same thing last year. She started asking for a phone call first before giving out her real number. It saved her a lot of headaches. If a guy couldn't take five minutes for a quick chat, she figured he wasn't worth the trouble anyway. It's a simple way to check if someone is genuine without needing to know their height or job. Maybe give that a try if this fake number stuff keeps happening to you.

Yeah, that's really frustrating. Stuff like that just adds another layer of distrust to dating. It's already hard enough to put yourself out there without worrying someone is just playing games. I've seen similar things happen to friends and it just seems so pointless and mean. Really tired of that kind of casual rudeness being treated like it's no big deal.

Six months ago I started asking for a video call before ANY in-person meeting. Weeded out SO many fakes and timewasters immediately. It honestly made dating feel way less exhausting.
