Realized I keep matching with men who think 'being funny' means insulting me
Was on a date last week at a coffee shop in Portland, and the guy spent 20 minutes making jokes about my job as a teacher. Said I must 'love being broke' and 'babysitting rich kids.' I laughed the first time to be polite, but by the third jab I just got up and left. Why do so many guys think being mean is the same as being clever? Has anyone else dealt with this confusing flirting thing where they tear you down?

Good on you for walking out, that took guts. The_lucas is right that it's a power move from insecure guys who can't handle a real conversation. You deserve someone who builds you up, not tears you down over coffee.

That sounds so frustrating, I'm really sorry that happened to you. The whole 'negging' thing is just a way for some guys to feel big by making someone else small, and it's honestly pathetic. You don't owe anyone politeness when they're being mean, good for you for walking out. It's like they learned flirting from a bad 90s movie or something, where being rude somehow equals charm. Teachers do so much for everyone, and the disrespect is just wild. Hope your next date is with someone who actually knows how to be funny without being a jerk.

Yeah I read this article that said negging is basically just a power move from insecure people, pretty lame.
