The date who brought a PowerPoint presentation about his ex-wife

I went out with a man in Portland last Saturday named Gary who showed up with a tablet. After 10 minutes of small talk, he pulled up a 12-slide PowerPoint detailing everything his ex-wife did wrong in their marriage. I excused myself to the restroom and walked straight out the back door of the restaurant. Has anyone else had a date bring props or presentations?

Oh man, "12-slide PowerPoint detailing everything his ex-wife did wrong" is wild. I had a similar thing happen a few years back where a guy brought out printed photos of his ex's dog and went on for like 20 minutes about how she got custody in the breakup. For me, what worked was just telling him straight up that I wasn't feeling a connection and ended the date early. Maybe it's just me, but I think some people use these props to avoid actually having to be vulnerable or make real conversation. Idk, you definitely made the right call walking out, that's next level.

Wait, printed photos of her dog? That's just...wow. It's like they hand you a whole presentation on their baggage before you've even had your first drink. I had a guy once pull out his phone to show me a spreadsheet of all his exes and why each one failed, and I just sat there thinking, "this is not a job interview, dude." You handled it way better than I did though, I just kind of sat there frozen for way too long. These people really do use the props to hide from actually connecting, like they're reading from a script. Seriously, good for you for cutting it short, that dog photo thing would've had me looking for the nearest exit too.

12-slide PowerPoint" is honestly insane but I used to be the guy who thought stuff like this was just people being quirky and honest. Would have defended Gary before this post. But nah, you're right - these props are a shield. I had a buddy who would bring a mental checklist on dates and I'd tell him he was just being thorough. Then I saw him do it once and realized he was just deflecting from having to actually talk like a normal person. You dodged a bullet with that back door exit.
