Three years of dinner-and-a-movie dates and I finally snapped
Used to think a basic dinner and a movie was the safe bet for a first date. You know, easy, no pressure. Then after my 12th straight date where we sat in silence during the film and had awkward small talk over pasta, I swore it off. Now I only do active stuff like mini golf or bowling where you're actually doing something together. Has anyone else dumped the standard dinner date and found something better?

12 straight dates of awkward pasta silence" lol sounds like a real cinematic masterpiece of romance.

Honestly I gotta disagree with you and @elizabethg18 on this one. I've been on probably 8 dinner-and-a-movie first dates and 5 of them led to second dates just because the quiet gave us something to talk about after. The trick is picking a movie that's actually interesting not some boring drama, like a horror or comedy where you can laugh or scream together. Dinner and a movie works fine if you actually like the person, the activity isn't the problem.
