Went on a date where the guy spent 20 minutes fixing his car in the parking lot
I matched with this guy named Mark and we agreed to meet for coffee at this place in downtown Austin. He showed up late, then his check engine light came on and he literally spent 20 minutes popping the hood and messing with his battery cables. By the time we sat down I had already finished my latte and had to head out for work. Has anyone else had a date get derailed by something totally random like car trouble?

Mark should have hit you with a heads up text before you even left your house. That's basic respect for someone's time. If his car is acting up, he either deals with it before the date or reschedules. You didn't sign up to watch him pretend to be a mechanic in a parking lot. Next time, set a 10 minute grace period and bail if they can't get their act together.

Set a 10 minute grace period and bail" - that's good advice but honestly I showed up to a date once and the guy had gotten his hand stuck in a vending machine at the bowling alley. We spent the first 15 minutes with him trying to wiggle out a bag of chips while the machine was beeping at us. By the time we actually bowled I was so stressed I rolled a gutter ball every single time. At least your guy was trying to fix something important, mine was just hangry.
