Changed my mind about 'thoughtful' gifts after my aunt gave me a single earplug
I used to think any handmade or 'personal' gift was always better than store bought. But last Christmas my aunt gave me a single, used earplug in a little bag she sewed, saying it was because I 'listen too much'. I picked that over the $20 gift card my cousin offered to swap with, and I seriously regretted it the second I opened it. Has anyone else gotten a gift that made you rethink your whole gift philosophy?

Must say the earplug's a better story than a gift card though.

Wait, did you actually try using it or just toss it? I'd have held onto that single earplug as a reminder to always take the gift card next time.

Hold on, a used earplug? Like she actually put it in her ear and then wrapped it up for you? That is wild. I would have been so confused and honestly a little grossed out. What were you supposed to do with that, melt it down? A $20 gift card is always better than a used piece of foam, no contest. I don't care how much thought she put into the sewing, the used part is just too much for me to get past.
