Debate: Is a $50 heated throw blanket a lifesaver or a fire hazard waiting to happen?
I got one last Christmas and it's great for chilly evenings, but my buddy swears his almost melted a hole in his couch after one use. Anyone else had a close call with these things or am I just being paranoid?

Lol I actually worked at a fire safety testing lab for a summer and those blankets are way more dangerous than people realize. It's not always about the blanket itself either, it's about how people use them with old extension cords or frayed outlets that can't handle the constant draw. I've seen testing reports where folks left them bunched up under couch cushions thinking it was fine, and the internal temp shot up past what the fabric could handle. Not saying toss yours out or anything, but buddy's near miss story isn't that wild once you see how easy it is to mess up the safety limits.

Watch how many people use cheap power strips or daisy-chain extension cords without thinking about it. It's the same with phone chargers and space heaters people just plug things in wherever fits without checking the load. We trust everyday stuff way too much and forget that any heating device needs clean power and space to breathe.

My buddy nearly burned his dorm down daisy-chaining two space heaters with a bargain bin power strip, @west.anna.
