Honestly, I bet if you shipped all those thrown-away fruitcakes to space, they'd outlast everything because they're basically preserved forever already.

Waste of rocket fuel though. Think about the payload costs. You'd need a specialized container just to keep that thing from shattering on launch. Plus fruitcake is dense. Really dense. That weight adds up fast. Better to just leave them in the back of grandma's pantry where they've been since 1987. Let them become a fossil for future archaeologists to find. They'll dig it up and wonder what kind of ancient preserved life form it was.
