My grandmother gave me a VHS tape of her cat for Christmas... in 2018
I still can't believe she found a working VHS player to record it on. The tape was labeled "Fluffy's Birthday" and had a handwritten date from 2004 on it. I don't even own a VCR anymore and had to go to Goodwill to buy one for $12 just to watch it. The tape was mostly 15 minutes of her cat sleeping on a carpet with some static at the end. Has anyone else gotten a gift that was basically obsolete by a decade or more?

Used to roll my eyes at people keeping old tech around, but honestly your grandma going through all that effort just to share a cat video from 2004 is kind of beautiful (and $12 for a VCR is a steal).

My buddy found his dad's old camcorder in a closet and spent a whole weekend watching grainy footage of his own 8th birthday party from 1996, said it was the best $0 he ever spent.
