My sister gave me a mug that says "World's Okayest Sister" on it

She handed it to me last Christmas at her place in Phoenix, and I had to laugh. I'm her only sibling, so it's not like she had anyone else to compare with. The worst part is the mug is chipped and leaks coffee all over my desk. Has anyone else gotten a gift that was basically an insult with a side of broken?

The real insult is the chipped mug, not the text. She probably dropped it wrapping it and figured you wouldn't notice. That's a whole other level of passive aggression.

Absolutely spot on. The chipped mug is way worse than whatever dumb slogan was printed on it... like she literally damaged the thing and just hoped you'd be too polite to say anything. I had a co-worker gift me a "World's Best Dad" coffee cup once, and I don't even have kids. The thing was scratched up on the bottom like she'd used it for years before wrapping it up. People who give chipped or used stuff as gifts are just telling you they don't care enough to get something new... or they're testing to see how much crap you'll put up with. I'd rather get a plain white mug from the dollar store than something with a giant chip in it.

Three days after my aunt gave me a "Fun Aunt" keychain (I'm not an aunt, I'm an only child), the little charm fell off and I found it in my coat pocket like a sad little Easter egg hunt. @sam17 is right, the chip makes it feel less like a joke and more like she dug it out of the back of her cupboard and hoped you'd just appreciate the "effort.
