My wife gave me a choice between a new grill or a weekend fishing trip for my birthday

I picked the fishing trip because I thought it would be more fun. She booked us at this lake near Austin and it rained the whole time, plus I forgot the bait. Now I'm staring at our rusty grill every time I cook burgers and wondering if I made a huge mistake. Has anyone else picked the experience over the thing and totally regretted it?

Made the same mistake with a beach trip once, now I just fix the grill myself.

Did you at least catch any fish, or was it just a wet weekend with no payoff? That's the worst part, you get stuck with the memory of being cold and miserable with nothing to show for it. I did the same thing a few years back with a concert, skipped a new couch for tickets, and we got rained out halfway through. Now every time I sit on that lumpy old couch I want to kick myself.

Man, that "stuck with the memory of being cold and miserable with nothing to show for it" part hits hard. I did the same thing with a camping trip last fall, figured it'd be a fun weekend away, but it poured every single night and we forgot the fire starter. Now I'm staring at this sad little cooler I could of used that money on instead. It's rough when the experience just becomes a story about what went wrong instead of a good time.
